Getting There in Bangkok

Getting to Bangkok

The BTS Skytrain (two lines: Sukhumvit and Silom) and MRT Blue Line cover most tourist areas efficiently and cheaply — fares run 17–65 THB. Get a rechargeable Rabbit Card (BTS) to skip ticket queues. The Chao Phraya Express Boat is the fastest route to the Old City and avoids road traffic entirely. Metered taxis are cheap and reliable; insist the driver use the meter (say 'meter, kap/ka'). Ride-hailing apps Grab and Bolt often show a fixed price upfront and are easier than flagging a cab. Tuk-tuks are fun for short hops but negotiate the fare before you board, and be aware of common 'gem store' detour scams.
